in so far as

in so far as
in so far as
meaning ‘to the extent that’, should be written as four words, although it is also found in the form insofar as and occasionally in-so-far as; but in all forms the as is detached:

• The exercise of reviewing his life was proving monstrous in so far as it revealed the places in which it had gone irredeemably wrong —Anita Brookner, 1988

• Insofar as I had thought at all about what Italians did on vacation, I imagined the inhabitants of the cities joyfully rushing towards the provinces for the whole of August —Times, 2004.

It is a rather formal phrase, and can often be replaced by as far as or recast with little loss of meaning in a simpler construction with since or because.
